Tech@Hand Workshop at Conard House

Tech@Hand and Conard House joined forces to host a workshop on building digital skills. Tech@Hand is an SFDPH funded program that reduces barriers to mental health support by increasing access to digital skills. We loan out tablets to TAY and transgender San Franciscans, provide connections to peer mental health, and conduct digital literacy education.Conard House is a nonprofit organization that specializes in Supportive Housing and Mental Health Services in San Francisco, which aims to build welcoming communities and caring relationships that empower people and restore hope.Based on participant feedback, our workshop focused on: Using your job history to create an online resumeTailor your resume to a particular job postingSaving a resume as a .pdf

How did we decide on this topic? By conducting a survey of Conard House participants beforehand to ensure that our content was relevant to what they needed. Participants told us that they were interested in job searching and resume building—so we built our workshop around those topics.  Our Job Searching and Resume Building workshop had over twenty participants, as well as several volunteers and staff from Conard House. Some of the concepts we covered:The importance of tailoring your resume to each job posting How to use google templates to create a nicely formatted resume with ease How to save your resume as a .pdf   We also had a vibrant Q&A session where participants asked about online security, how to verify employment scams, checking if an organization is real by verifying them with Dun and Bradstreet, and finally, leveraging online communities such as Reddit to compare stories. Overall, it was a great experience which allowed our participants to grow their digital skills, learn how to develop a resume and discuss pro tips on how to navigate the job search process. We got the opportunity to provide both individual support for participants who were having difficulty using their devices, as well as an in-depth overview with the kinds of tips and tricks that employers are on the lookout for.

It was also a perfect opportunity to discuss MHASF’s very own workforce development program, PROPEL. PROPEL is a no-cost “Peer” Professional Network that offers Supported Employment [SE] services in San Francisco, Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa, and San Mateo counties. When you enroll in PROPEL, you will have access to the many Supported Employment service offerings, all free of charge. It was an honor to help drive awareness of peer mental health and increase digital skills for San Francisco residents. For more information about Conard House, see: https://conardhouse.org/If you would like more information about PROPEL and its services, Click Here. For more information on Tech@Hand and our digital skills and tablet borrowing programming, see TAMHS.
